Surfwella, free wifi facility for Nigerian Universities
Surfwella, a free WIFI facility will
be made available in Nigerian universities to give a boost to tertiary
education in the country.
According to the Chief Marketing
Officer, Surfwella, Olusola Bankole, the free Internet wifi will be launched
across the length and breadth of the university campuses in Nigeria.
Surfwella is a Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) initiative of indigenous 4G operator, Cyberspace Network
Limited, and a veritable platform for social and cognitive computing.
Bankole disclosed that University of
Abuja will be the first beneficiary of the service, scheduled for launch on the
campus today.
He explained that the firm is
building and will soon unveil the Internet infrastructure they have been
diligently working on for the use of the university communities.
He reiterated that the service will
be free, “no payment, no subscription, no data purchase, and no need for
modems. Free Internet in the most useable form, on wifi,” he stated.
He disclosed that the company is
planning to build another free Internet infrastructure for Lagos State
University (LASU), in the next few weeks, followed in quick succession by
College of Agriculture, Lafiaji, and University of Lagos (UniLag).
Bankole disclosed that Surfwella is
doing this as a way to give back to the society, “it’s our own form of
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It is all about empowering the students
to be globally competitive, and access to free Internet is the best way to
empower the budding on-coming Generation-Z.”
While urging Nigerians, to watch out
for more innovation and solutions coming from the firm, the CMO said the
company is living up to its name and mission to build and provide the right
infrastructure to the business world that will make it easier to do business,
and to be globally focused.
He informed that the students of UniAbuja, who are already
elated about the development, could not believe that such a feat could be
happening during their own tenure.
