Discover how safe Hawaii is

According to Hawaii officials, Hawaii is known around the world as a safe place. And they believe the hotel and security community play an important role in making Hawaii a secure place, not only for visitors, but residents as well.

"It's no secret that's been one of our major selling points. We are a safe destination, so when these things happen, we look internally just to make sure everything's in sync," Mufi Hannemann, president and CEO of the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association said.

"Our security professionals in our hotels is one of the best in the world and I will tell you they work very closely with our local law enforcement on all islands. I think they are really prepared for anything," George Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority said.

Hannemann says they can never do enough to prepare.

In fact, they are hosting an internationally known tourism safety expert to talk to those in the industry next week. His visit was already in the pipeline but will be all the more timely for the visitor industry.

However, George Szigeti is among several hundred from Hawaii who will head to Las Vegas Monday for a tourism conference.
